Movie Recommendations
Today’s blog will be a recommendation of my favorite movies that are based on real events, this type of movie is called "biographical or biopic". I’ve decided to recommend movies of this genre because it’s one of my favorites as they show us inspiring, heartbreaking, and amazing stories that have happened in real life.
Although there are many movies, I haven't seen yet that are probably much better, this time I’ve chosen 6 movies that have had a big impact on me and that I’ve loved.
This film tells the story of Saroo, a 5-year-old Indian boy who accidentally gets separated from his family, Saroo has to learn to survive on his own until he is adopted by an Australian couple. As an adult, he does his best to find his biological family with the help of blurry memories from his childhood and Google Earth.
Men of Honor (2000)
The film is based on
the life of Carl Brashear, a man of African-American descent, raised in a rural
environment, who fights against racism and becomes the first African-American to
become a master diver in the United States Navy in 1970.
Loving (2016)
The interracial
marriage struggle of a young couple who married in Virginia in 1958 to have
their rights preserved. Richard and Mildred Loving took their case to the
Supreme Court to denounce a law prohibiting marriages between people of
different races.
Just Mercy (2019)
This movie follows the
life of the young lawyer, Bryan Stevenson, and his historic battle for justice.
Stevenson defends Walter McMillian, a man sentenced to death in 1987 for a
murder he didn't commit. While struggling to save his client’s life, the young
lawyer must face both racism and the complicated legal system of the United
States.
Hacksaw Ridge (2016)
It tells the story of
Desmond Doss, a young man who, despite having a strong conviction not to use
weapons, he decides to enlist in the army during World War II to become a medic.
In the bloody Battle of Okinawa, Desmond manages to evacuate 75 men without
even firing a single bullet.
Hidden Figures (2016)
The incredible story of
Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, three African-American scientists
who worked at NASA, who were instrumental in one of the greatest operations in
history: the launch into orbit of astronaut John Glenn. At the same time, these
brilliant women fought for the civil rights of African Americans.
Finally, I would like
to make a special mention of other movies that I also think deserve recognition
for having a pretty good story, these are:
- American Sniper (2014)
- Schindler's List (1993)
- The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019)
- Changeling (2008)
- The Founder (2016)
- Escape from Alcatraz (1979)
Thank you so much for your recommendation. I already watched Men of Honor and Hidden Figures. Let me tell you that I loved them and I am really sure that I will enjoy the others as well.
